Chances are, you’ve heard our products – especially P90X® & INSANITY® – mentioned over the past few days in media coverage surrounding a certain high-profile addition to the political mainstage. Over the last few years we’ve heard of over 27 different senators and members of congress who have done P90X. But this time, the press fascination is more intense than ever with the announcement of Paul Ryan as candidate for Vice President of the US on the Republican ticket.
For us, this attention on his use of P90X isn’t about politics or a political position. Our company is about health and fitness for anyone and everyone who is willing to step up and do what it takes – regardless of beliefs or political affiliation. We’re excited that everyone can agree that P90X delivers results.
Looking at all this attention in terms of our mission to get people healthy and fit, all this press is a big bonus. (I am sure coach Tommy Mygrant’s hometown got a pretty big kick out of the prominence of his before and afters tonight on The Daily Show!) All over the place, people are talking about our products and how they deliver real results. In the last 48 hours we’ve been called by The New York Times, CNN, Inside Edition, Good Morning, America, TMZ, U.S. News and World Report, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, etc. – all wanting to know more about P90X. I’ve walked through the office today and several times, I’ve seen clips from P90X and pictures of Tony Horton featured on various shows. Pretty cool.
Paul Ryan is passionate about fitness, bought and used our products, got great results, created a challenge group with members of both parties right there in the Congressional Gym and LOVES to talk about the bipartisan workouts that happen each morning. In terms of brand recognition and support of the concept of our challenge groups, it’s a big win!
Of course, this isn’t our first brush with high profile political recognition. When you meet the leader of the free world at an event and he tells you that the First Lady and members of his staff use P90X, that’s pretty amazing too. I guess sweat and hard work are not partisan, and neither is our business. (Hey, we heard Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore both did P90X and we didn’t take sides on that one, either!)
