You could be the next Lance. Not Lance Armstrong, that might take a little more than a round of P90X and Insanity, but rather Lance Z from Nebraska.
Lance’s story is one we hear a lot. He was a solid athlete in high school, played recreational sports in college, and gradually started letting his health and fitness get away. Before he knew it he was 50 pounds overweight and didn’t even realize how far he had fallen.
It’s definitely a recurring theme. Somewhere between that point where you stop playing team sports and enter adulthood, you find yourself distracted with the pressures of entering the “real world” and forget the most important thing: your life.
Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
Before I started P90X and Insanity I was disgusted with myself. I was on the swim team in high school for crying out loud and this is what I had become. I had gained over 50 lbs throughout my college career and I was completely ashamed of myself. As much as my wife told me I looked fine, I didn’t believe her. There were times I felt embarrassed to take my shirt of in my own home. It was time to make a change.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
I had seen the P90X and Insanity infomercials more times than I could count. I had also been hearing about it more and more and that kind of word of mouth only gets around when something works. I spent my time doing my research and looking at the success stories and then I realized…why couldn’t I be one of those success stories? It was time to change the way I did a lot of things in my life and once I started making those changes the results just became second nature.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program?
My biggest challenge was being so out of shape that the simplest things were sometimes a pain. Mowing the lawn wasn’t hard, but I was exhausted when it was done. Riding my bike a mile up the road to my in-laws seemed like a daunting task. Now both are things I enjoy. If I can’t get on my bike for a few days I’m dying, and the lawn seems to get itself mowed in half the time with a quarter of my weight being gone.
Why did you choose P90X and Insanity?
I chose these two programs to begin my fitness transformation because of all of the great reviews and the fact it included some resistance training as well. I loved lifting weights in high school and I wanted that lean muscular look that had always eluded me throughout my life. After P90X I have more muscle than I did in high school and I’m the lightest I’ve been since my freshman year of college. After Insanity, I am in better shape than I was in high school swimming. P90X and Insanity aren’t just a means to an end for me, they are the doorway to a new beginning.
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
How hasn’t my life changed would be the question to ask to get a shorter answer. I have more energy than anyone could imagine. I’m doing things I never dreamed possible. In fact, just yesterday (5/6/12), I finished my first half-marathon in Lincoln, NE at a pace of 7:32/mile. Six months ago I went for a jog around my neighborhood and barely made it 1.5 miles at a pace of 9:30/mile. Its amazing how your life can change so dramatically when you lose weight that has been haunting you!
I want to personally congratulate Lance on an amazing transformation and for completing his first half-marathon (at a quicker pace than I could have finished!) this past May!
