I was asked last night about how to deal with the competition… Simple: I don’t deal with the competition. I focus intensely on executing what I know to be the only way to end the trend of obesity with truly healthy options.
I BELIEVE so deeply in what we do, how we do it, and what we represent as a tribe, that I don’t have the bandwidth to look around. Anyone who asks me how we compare to a competitor can see instantly in my eyes that I have absolutely no doubt that we offer the best fitness solutions, the most nutrient dense nutrition, the most positive and robust peer support to get real, lasting results.
There’s too much opportunity. What I look at is the needs of the coach and customer, and bust my ass to meet those needs today better than I did yesterday.
I hustle to reach more people, create a more compelling experience, and do it with integrity.
Nobody in the world is doing what we do. And nobody in the world is doing it with the same fierce commitment to real healthy, life-enhancing results. There’s a lot of stuff on TV which competes with us. There are other networks promising weight loss solutions. There has been and always will be competition. Our job is just to constantly improve, and make as great an experience as possible for anyone and everyone who recognizes the originality and unparalleled quality of what we are doing.
I serve the customer, I serve the coach, and do my best to make it a great place to work for our Dudes. And by focusing on those activities, I don’t have to deal with the competition, the competition has to deal with us.

Love seeing our CEO as focused and driven as you are! Thank you Carl for giving all of us as coaches such an AMAZING opportunity to share in your vision to end the trend of obesity by offering world-class fitness and world-class nutrition to the people we care most about!
Wow – I was totally thinking about this topic this morning.
People come and ask me for help, but then excuse themselves to buy a cheaper competitor’s product. I’ve learned not to take it personally, and just move on to the person who does want a product that helps change lives.
I don’t need to convince anyone that what we do is top-notch…I’M CONVINCED! And as long as I’m happy, healthy, and medication-free, I’m just going to keep showing the world, with my un-wavering commitment, that we’re not some fad that’s going away. We’re LIFERS!
Thanks for this Carl. The Beachbody programs, products and team of coaches and employees is bar none well ahead of any “competition”. I am so blessed to be a part of this and look forward to all the future holds!!
I remember when I was younger and got in trouble for being a wise-crackin’ kid. Always I’d whine, “What about so-and-so?” whenever I got my ass handed to me. “Don’t worry about so-and-so, worry about you!” Well, they were right: I was better than that and shouldn’t've have worried about them. Still got in trouble, but you get what I mean.
This is SPOT ON, Carl!
As my first passion is writing–my first book in a YA mystery series due to workshop for an agent/editor/house in the last third of 2012–we’re told to “write the story, don’t chase trends, hone the craft and get better by being around those authors who’ll challenge you to get out of the comfort zone.” Your post is right that same skein: be the BEST YOU you can be, whatever form that “YOU” takes. CEO or writer, nurse or architect, janitor or pastor . . . you know your calling, know thyself and to thine own self be true, you don’t have TIME to worry about anyone else.
Make your own good kind of trouble and do it with passion! So glad to be part of a company that makes that a reality for me!
Carl,
Thanks for the awesome article. This is truly a great reminder for every part of my life! Its not about what others see, think or do that should concern me. It is about ME focusing on what I have been entrusted with and doing the best I can with the time, relationships and provisions I have been entrusted with. I needed that reminder this morning.
I was watching your live video chat yesterday and two things you said really stood out to me. One, you told someone to go buy a foam roller from somewhere else if they could get it cheaper of if you BB didn’t sell it. And two, you told a coach to not push someone into signing up if they weren’t ready. Even said to not turn all our relationships into selling opportunities…and I loved that. I’ve sold for many direct sales companies and NEVER heard them say anything like that (in fact, quite the opposite). What a refreshing approach. I can’t tell you how many friends I have lost because once they started selling for some company, you become nothing more than a potential customer. As a new coach, when you said those things, I knew I was finally in the right place. Thank you!
Thanks, Carl. I agree with you completely! I will say that the struggle I sometimes have is watching a large number of people I know and care about being sucked into a product which, I believe, may be harming their health. I’ve tried to explain this but they don’t want to hear it, so I move on (reluctantly).
Carl, you are an angel sent from God! I see so many people I can help and want to help in my community. It starts with ME first though.. everything is coming together, and I BELIEVE in Beachbody 100%. We all have our own stories but I know Beachbody, the programs, shakeology, the support, natural feelings are all we need in life be “well” to be happy. I can’t thank you enough for this opportunity and my journey is just beginning.
THE U.P. WILL GET BACK IN SHAPE – and not so depressed, we will become motivated again as a community and take BB to the next level – like they say we are a different breed ;)
God Bless You Carl, and all the other Beachbody coaches – we ARE angels to others <3
With a COACH like you our TEAM is sure to be victorious!! Thank you for your drive, passion and commitment to touch our hearts, homes and families in such a profound way.
YOur integrity and commitment to the coaches– has kept me part of Beachbody for the past 5 years this week…… I value your vision and I am going along for the ride to see the trend end! Hopefully, in my kid’s lifetime it will happen! THANKS CARL D!
Carl, what can I say….I’m so lucky to be able to ‘work with’ a company that REALLY CARES…:):):)Thank you!!!
You rule Dude. It just doesn’t matter what other people are doing. We know who we are and what we do and that’s what matters.
Carl you are the man and this is exactly the reason Beachbody is so successful. Thank you for your daily consistency and integrity and for all that you do!
Carl, Thanks for telling it like it is, having the vision to put it out there, and building not only a support system to end the trend, but an opportunity for each of us to succeed at so much more than our fitness goals.
That makes sense! Sometimes we get so caught up with the competition, we fail to be innovative and forward thinking. Can’t wait until coaching is open to Jamaica!
Wow this man, walks the walk and talks the talk. Jeez this ceo is just as honest and effective as the programs and products he advertises.
Carl, there IS no competition. I have been searching for a product exactly like Shakeology for at least 10 years. It is absolutely one of a kind. 70 ingredients? From all over the earth? Tried and tested by indigenous peoples? NO OTHER PRODUCT CAN EVEN COME CLOSE! One of my people has completely halted the progress of liver disease, and I anticipate its reversal in the next few months. My adult niece who has a seizure disorder and autism has almost eliminated break through seizures (even with anti-seizure medication) that doctors cannot medicate anymore than her current dose. She has gone from 1-5 seizures a week to 1-2 every 2 months. I anticipate her getting better and better as well. Personally, there is not another shake on the market I can even use as most of them are dairy based, artificially flavored, colored and sweetened. My focus is great health and fitness, and one of these days, as I continue to feel better and better, become more and more fit, and have the energy of a 20 year old in my 60′s, my friends who jumped on the competitors’ bandwagons will come back around. Keep doing what you’re doing, Carl. Thank you for caring about health first.
